BA/Science is a consultancy within Boulder Associates Architects, a design firm specializing in design for health and aging. BA/Science is organized into four channels: Integrate – lean design and construction, Examine – evidence-based design and research, Sustain – sustainability, and Improve – lean healthcare operations. Together as BA/Science, we fulfill the following role within the firm:
- Cultivate firm-wide knowledge
- Build and maintain industry expertise
- Pull the design practice into the future
- Add value to the design practice by improving design outcomes
We are seeking a Director of Systems Improvement to lead and grow our Improve coaching practice and to support the functional programming, medical planning, and design of the architectural practice. This position is a remote work position from anywhere in Colorado. This position requires 20% travel, pending restrictions/safety related to Covid-19.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Collaborate with other director level partners in BA/Science to build the consulting practice
- Support the design practice by providing healthcare operations input during pre-design, programming, and schematic design phases
- Work with Director of Business Development and others to seek and deliver consulting and coaching opportunities external to the firm
- Build and lead a team of consultants in support of the Improve channel
- Cultivate firm-wide knowledge:
- Participate in on- boarding of new design staff within field of expertise
- Provide ongoing training of design staff within field of expertise
- Periodically offer programming within University of Boulder Associates, our firm-wide learning program
- Build and maintain industry expertise:
- Participate in industry organizations at the local, regional, and national level
- Contribute cutting edge work to the field when applicable
- Maintain a dynamic social media presence
- Pull the design practice into the future
- Provide strategic guidance to the firm relative to expertise
- Challenge firm leadership to move in innovative directions
- Add value to the design practice by improving design outcomes:
- Consult with designers scoping projects and participate in project interviews as needed
- Aid designers developing functional space programs
- Review sketch floor plans from an operational perspective and provide recommendations and critique as needed
- Coaching standard lean healthcare tools:
- Waste identification and analysis
- Time/Motion study and documentation
- Value Stream Mapping
- 3P
- Wake up each day and add value until the sun goes down!
Required Qualifications:
- 10 or more years of experience in lean healthcare
- Strong improvement project work in both acute and ambulatory settings
- Well-maintained and active network of healthcare contacts
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Proven ability to inspire transformation with front line workers
- Demonstrated knack for building consensus with organizational leadership, including C-suite
Preferred Experience:
- Lean Six Sigma Black Belt sensei level preferred
- Certified Scrum Master
- Stakeholder participant in past capital project(s) delivery
- Background or familiarity in data analysis and visualization
Preferred Software Skills:
- Microsoft Office Suite
- Google Docs
- Tableau and/or Power BI
- Visio or other mapping software
