Job Summary and Qualifications

The position partners with Capital Deployment leaders and external design and contractor partner companies to develop and implement improvement strategies, goals and plans across the project portfolio for design and construction. Additionally, this position builds and maintains a pipeline of value creation projects consistent with overall Capital Deployment strategies.

This role will lead, direct, facilitate, and engage multi-disciplinary teams to ensure the completion of initiatives for the department using business operational excellence principles, systems and a defined performance improvement methodology. The role will utilize financial and data analysis skills to identify, prioritize and determine return on investment for improvement projects. This position tracks and monitors performance against goals, metrics and KPIs for improvement projects across the Capital Deployment portfolio. This individual should possess excellent communication skills, proven motivational capabilities, and a demonstrated track record of delivering results and attaining goals.

Duties include but not limited to:

Quality

  • Applies modern business operational excellence principles, systems and tools: Lean, Six Sigma, Continuous Improvement, Kaizen, Value Stream Management, Visual Management, Complex Problem Solving, 5S, Flow, Pull, Value Analysis, and Elimination of 8 Wastes.
  • Facilitates best in class capital productivity improvement training for internal and external employees at all levels. Works cross-functionally to develop guidelines and share best practices to accelerate leveraging scale.
  • Plans and controls scope for simple to complex improvement projects. Utilizes project charters and scope documents to ensure requirements are clearly defined and managed. Creates and manages project work plans, maintains updated status of progress versus the schedule.
  • Identifies resources required internally and externally for projects. Manages resource time and effectiveness throughout project lifecycle. Gathers and compiles the project budgets. Manages external vendors and follows HCA accounting/financial processes.
  • Identifies and manages project risks. Guides team and sponsors to accept some risks given the opportunity for benefit. Anticipates issues and escalates when appropriate to leadership.
  • Utilizes and promotes the use of Capital Deployment standard PMO tool set and contemporary project management techniques with improvement projects.

Service

  • Comfortable making most significant decisions for complex projects in accordance with installed project governance and issue management processes.
  • Drives execution of improvement strategies without creating conflict. Able to engage and empower team members in decision making and problem resolution with escalation as appropriate.
  • Manages expectations for project by ensuring stakeholders and team members have a common understanding of project planned outcomes. 
  • Drives team decision making supported by all parties and ensures alignment of decisions with organizational missions, values, and priorities.
  • Ensures all project management processes are clearly documented as appropriate for the project size and complexity. Identifies and either resolves or escalates discrepancies or issues as they are discovered.

People

  • Creates and maintains a cooperative working relationship that will promote a high level of employee morale and esprit de corps; can be both direct and assertive, as well as, diplomatic; gains trust quickly of other parties to the negotiations; has a good sense of timing. 
  • Ability to negotiate skillfully in tough situations with internal and external groups; can settle differences with minimum noise; can win concessions without damaging relationships; can maneuver through complex political situations effectively and quietly; is sensitive to how people and organizations function; anticipates obstacles and plans approaches accordingly while delivering results.
  • Collaborates with leaders, and their organizations internally and externally to inspire a continuous improvement culture by deploying capital productivity toolkits, training and methods across the extended Capital Deployment enterprise.
  • Coordinates and guides external champions and Deployment Advocates to meet capital productivity objectives and strategies.

Growth

  • Partners with Capital Deployment leaders and external partner companies to develop capital productivity value improvement strategies, goals and plans in order to achieve value creation targets.
  • Effectively manages customer expectations by establishing relationships, transparent communications, and factoring business needs into project decisions. Inspires confidence through delivering results.
  • Develops formal communication plans for complex projects, able to craft complex messages to a challenging stakeholder group with success, able to obtain needed communications from stakeholders. Conducts appropriate interactions with Leadership with little to no guidance.
  • Ability to draw conclusions and connect outside factors into conversations and work sessions. Able to prepare and deliver effective written and oral communication to effectively communicate strategies.
  • Designs and executes appropriate facilitation approaches depending on audience and topic complexity. Prepares for and presents complex matters effectively across organization levels; is effective in a variety of formal presentation settings: one-on-one, small and large groups; is effective both inside and outside the organization, including on controversial topics; Recognizes and ensures connection with all audience types and levels.

Finance

  • Builds a strong pipeline of value improvement projects to achieve a 5-10% value creation rate annually.
  • Tracks and monitor results providing reporting to all levels of the organization.
  • Utilizes life cycle cost analysis, return on investment and cost data analysis to evaluate financial viability of strategic initiatives and specific projects to assist in steering strategic clarity. Utilizes financial ratios and payback calculations to model potential scenarios for improvement projects.
  • Analyze benchmark data to make cost and process efficiency recommendations in line with facility or team financial objectives.

Requirements: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering, manufacturing engineering or equivalent experience required
  • Master’s degree in related field preferred
  • 5+ years of experience in process improvement transformation/Lean or related experience required
  • 5+ years of experience in Lean Construction Methodologies (Last Planner System, prefabrication, etc) required
  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or equivalent experience required.
  • Black Belt certification desirable.
  • Experience with building modeling systems (BIM, CAD/CAM, etc.) preferred
  • Certification in project management is a plus but not required.
